9.1 Healthy Wellness Plan

Learning Objectives

Explain what a healthy wellness plan is.
Explain what supplements are & how to use them.

9.1.1 Wellness Plan

You can create a wellness plan to determine how to keep yourself healthy and lower your risk of cancer returning (National Cancer Institute, 2018). This plan covers all types of health, including physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs; all are important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

You can work with your healthcare team to create a wellness plan tailored to you and your lifestyle (National Cancer Institute, 2018).

9.1.2 Supplements

Taking supplements during and after your breast cancer journey can be beneficial for your health; however, some supplements may have negative effects (BC Cancer, 2022c).

Experts recommend taking a vitamin D supplement daily to improve bone health (BC Cancer, 2022c). You could also take a daily supplement that contains many vitamins and minerals if you cannot eat a balanced diet.

Taking supplements during cancer treatment is not recommended (BC Cancer, 2022c). Some supplements can interfere with drug-related treatments, like chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. Always talk to your healthcare team about whether the supplements you are taking or want to take are safe for you to use.
